The global ranking of universities by GreenMetric (UI GreenMetric) was established in 2010 by an initiative of an Indonesian university with the aim of promoting sustainable development goals in higher education. In this ranking system, universities are ranked based on their commitment and actions towards sustainability issues.

In the GreenMetric Ranking 2023 list, there are 1,182 universities from around the world, and the names of 35 Iranian universities are also noticeable on this list. For the third consecutive year, the University of Kurdistan has achieved the rank of 16 among all Iranian universities and ranked 665 globally.

The evaluation criteria of GreenMetric for ranking higher education institutions include infrastructure with a weight of 15%, energy and climate change with a weight of 21%, waste management with a weight of 18%, water with a weight of 10%, transportation with a weight of 18%, and education and research with a weight of 18% on the list.
